Round table on “Creation of Trilingual Dictionaries, Implementation Experience, Problems and Perspectives”

On February, 5 .2020 on the basis of faculty of Bashkir and Turkic philology of Sterlitamak branch of Bashkir State University, the round table on a theme “Experience of Creation of Trilingual Dictionaries: Problems and Prospects” with participation of leading faculty of the Department of Bashkir and Turkic Philology, and also students of 3rd year in a direction 44.04.01 – Pedagogical Education has passed. Researcher of the grant project “Creation of trilingual dictionary of biological terms with linguistic and cultural component” and director of the Center for Advanced Training of “Bolashaq” Academy acted as a moderator and speaker.

The participants were presented with the project itself, the stages of work on it, as well as prospects for further joint cooperation within the framework of R&D and Students’ Scientific Research Program, and joint projects. The participants asked many questions about trilingualism and ways of its implementation. As Raisa Khakimovna, Dean of the Faculty of Bashkir and Turkic Philology noted, trilingualism in Bashkiria, namely simultaneous teaching of Bashkir, Russian and English languages, is just emerging: in the future experimental polylingual schools will be opened, and therefore teachers are already looking for textbooks on school and university disciplines in their native language. Thus, the creation of trilingual dictionaries on school subjects looks like a very promising project and there is interest in adding the Bashkir language.

Philologists are very interested in the associative and linguocultural components of the dictionary. They asked questions about the choice of web version of the dictionary, ways of administration of the project, prospects of its development after completion of grant financing. A paper version of the trilingual dictionary of biological terms and two disk versions were presented to the faculty.

The meeting was held in a very warm and friendly atmosphere. It was clear that those present were actually interested and willing to cooperate. I would like to express special gratitude to Raisa Ilisheva, Dean of the Faculty of Bashkir and Turkic Philology, and Ainur Utyayeva, Deputy Dean for Research.

The grant team also expresses great appreciation to the administration of “Bolashaq” Academy for their support to the project and prompt assistance in implementing the plans for this trip.
