Cooperation with the Karaganda Museum of Fine Arts

Director of “Rukhaniyat” center of Academy “Bolashaq” A.U. Aupenova under cooperation with Karaganda Museum of Fine Arts January 17, 2020 took part in the opening of the exhibition of paintings and presentation of the book-album “Hug you with my heart. Creativity and activities of Karipbek Kuyukov”. The book was published as part of the program “Rukhani Zhangyru” and tells about the creative work and social activities of K.Kuyukov – artist, activist of anti-nuclear movement, Honorary Ambassador of the ATOM Project, Knight of the Order of Kurmet, Nobel Peace Prize nominee, winner of the International Prize “For Nuclear-Free Future”.

Few artists have had such a fate, as Karipbek Kuyukov, a Kazakh artist with world fame. He was born in a hundred kilometers from the nuclear test site in the village of Yegindybulak, Karaganda region. Closeness to the site laid a terrible radiation print on his body – he was born without hands. Fate deprived him of much, but gave him the main thing – the thirst for life and faith in his destiny – to protect the Earth from pain, and Karipbek paints his pictures, holding brushes and pencils, clutching his teeth, so he is called the “Artist of lips”.

At the opening of the exhibition Karaganda art historian N.I. Ivanina, knowing the artist personally for almost 30 years, shared her thoughts about his work: “As long as I look at Karipbek Kuyukov’s works, every time something new opens up in them. How deep they are and how much meaning they have in them. You can draw very precisely and correctly, take color, create a composition, but if there is no emotional depth in the work, then once you look, the other one becomes boring. Not here. Who is luckier Karipbek or art?!

Once he was a child, he was given coloured pencils and he realized he was an artist, because to tell about an event, just by telling and giving some statistics, is to say nothing, because a person perceives the world emotionally, and when you see a picture, you penetrate there yourself and understand how difficult it is. Looking at the works, you see how different they are in color, in color. Notice that when Karipbek remembers the polygon, his color becomes a shade of blood. How much mental strength it takes to get back to the terrible thing that ruined the lives of many people.

It is amazing that you can’t see what lurks in the landscapes written by K. Kuyukov, where you see how deep these lakes are, how green these forests are and something lurks in them that could be seen only by a man who first discovered the beauty of nature, so immense and sometimes incomprehensible, but which is very warm to you.
The exhibition of Karipbek Kuyukov at Karaganda Museum of Fine Arts can be visited until February 2, 2020.

With the book-album “Hug You With My Heart. Creativity and Activity of Karipbek Kuyukov” can be found in “Rukhaniyat” center.
