Training workshop on curriculum and syllabus design

Senior teacher of the department of pre-school and primary education G.T. Talikova on November 18-19, 2019 on the basis of “Nazarbayev University” JSC held a training seminar on the development of academic programs (curriculum design) and syllabus design. Purpose: development of professional skills and competencies to improve the effectiveness of academic policy in higher education institutions. Format of the event: strategic session, interactive discussion, training, work in project groups, practical seminar.

November 18, 2019: from 09.30 to 10.00. – Opening of the seminar, welcome speech by A.Zh. Toibaev, Director of the Department of Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

10.00-13.00 – Training on “Academic Program Development: Key Components and Situation Factors from KIMEP Experience” conducted by Zh.S. Smagulova, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Education at KIMEP University, and E.M. Heather, Dean of the General Education Program at KIMEP University.

14.00-18.00 – Evaluation of educational programs (Experts of the Center for Bologna Process and Academic Mobility of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan).

November 19, 2019:

10.00-13.00 practical seminar on ‘Curriculum design’ was conducted by Duncan Priestly – General Director for Institutional Efficiency, Provost Nazarbayev University Office, Aizhan Mussina – General Manager, Provost Nazarbayev University Office, Aliya Suleimenova – Senior Manager for Academic Quality, Provost Nazarbayev University Office.

14.00-18.00 The creative laboratory “Development of Academic Programs: Key Components and Situation Factors from KIMEP Experience” was conducted by Zh.S. Smagulova – Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Education at KIMEP University and E.M. Heather – Dean of the General Education Program at KIMEP University.

After the training seminar, the participants formed a holistic picture of the approach to educational programme development.
