Kuryatov Viktor Konstantinovich – commander of a platoon of foot reconnaissance of the 181st Rifle Guards Regiment (61st Guards Rifle Division, 57th Army, 3rd Ukrainian Front) – senior sergeant of the Guards – at the time of awarding the Order of Glory, 1st degree.
Born on March 6, 1925 in the village of River Kurgan region. Russian.
At the age of seventeen he volunteered for the front. On the roads of war he walked from Stalingrad to the Austrian city of Weisberg.
Victor received baptism of fire near Stalingrad in the 38th Infantry Division, formed in Kazakhstan. For valour and courage he was awarded two medals “For bravery”. In hot battles for Stalingrad he was wounded.
After the hospital V. Kuryatov fought as a scout in the 61st Guards Rifle Division. South of Tiraspol, a group of scouts, which included Viktor Kuryatov, was tasked to scout and drown firing points deep in the enemy’s defense.
The guardsman Viktor Kuryatov acted bravely and resolutely in the following days of this battle as well. In one week he destroyed fifteen and captured ten Hitlerites.
On 22 January 1945, Staff Sergeant Viktor Kuryatov with fourteen scouts was ordered to take the “language” in the area of the Hungarian village of Sharp. Here the breakthrough of the enemy defense was planned. When approaching the enemy positions the reconnaissance group was found and fired from machine guns. But the soldiers did not retreat. Shouting, “Follow me, lads! Yay!” young communist Viktor Kuryatov rose to the attack. Scouts chased after him. A short hand-to-hand fight – and the trenches were taken. The success of the scouts was secured by the infantrymen. The commander of the reconnaissance group Kuryatov destroyed two machine guns and up to fifteen enemy soldiers in this battle. When a German jumped on him from behind the trench, the scout, dodged, disarmed the enemy and delivered to the regiment headquarters “tongue”.
For heroic deeds, the commander of intelligence Viktor Kuryatov was awarded the Order of Glory of three degrees.
Full Knight of the Order of Glory worked at the Zhezkazgan Mining and Metallurgical Plant named after KI Satpayev.
In recent years he lived in Omsk. He died on October 5, 2006, was buried in the Old-North Cemetery of Omsk.
