“Bolashaq” Academy hosted the 3rd meeting of “TED Talks Club”

The topic of the class was “Cultural heritage” and at the beginning of the class the students were asked the question “What is cultural heritage?”, which required an answer in English.

Then we discussed the topic a little bit, the pupils actively participated in the discussion despite the fact that it was difficult for them to speak English. However, they tried and wondered how one word or another would be in English.

Watching the video from the TED Talk conference on “How your pictures can help reclaim lost history” went very well. The students succeeded in developing their listening skills. Once again, they understood correctly what idea the speaker is trying to convey by actively discussing the video.

Then we parsed the new words for the pupils. We had to guess what a word means by the context of a sentence. The sentences were taken from the script to the speech. The students were unable to define the definition of words in English, but they were able to learn the meaning in Russian after the full translation of the sentence, which can certainly be considered a good result. Finally, we had to write a small speech in groups, expressing an opinion on “What can we do to save cultural heritage?” in two sentences. We were satisfied with the answers, although students still do not like group assignments. In general, we were able to do everything that was planned, and we will try different techniques to teach students to express themselves in English.
