August 2020 marks the 175th anniversary of the great Kazakh poet, thinker, composer, public figure, founder of Kazakh written literature and its first classic – Abai Kunanbayev.
Bolashaq Academy holds significant events, thus expressing eternal love of the fading memory to the most glorious son and the wisest mentor of the Kazakh people.
The library decorated a book exhibition dedicated to the 175th anniversary of Abai on the pages of the student newspaper “LiMoNaD”, publishing materials of students and faculty.
The staff of the Academy joined the Challenge #Abai175, launched in 2019 to read the works of Abai.
The Challenge was launched on 31 May by Shenar Shaken, a Bolashak alumna. She suggested reading Abai’s poems and posting commercials online. The action gained popularity after 9-year-old schoolgirl Laylm-Shyrak from the capital handed over the baton to the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
“I also took part in this action, proposed by a schoolgirl named Laylim, and supported the initiative. This action, in which many people, from schoolchildren to adults, including world-renowned ones, took an active part, lasted for several months.
Thanks to this, all of Kazakhstan has studied the heritage of Abai again. This is respect for Abai and an effective way of raising children. I hope that this year’s Abai Poetry Readings Challenge in honour of the poet’s anniversary will be animated in a new way,” said President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
