On October 16, 2024, as part of the activities of the scientific club “Young Researcher”, a round table was held on the topic “Topical issues of foreign language education” among students and undergraduates of the OP “Foreign language: two foreign languages”. Under the guidance of the senior lecturer of the Department of “Foreign Languages and Intercultural Communication” Mombekova Meruert Maratovna, 18 students and undergraduates took part in the event in offline and online format, who presented reports on the most relevant topics in the field of foreign language education. Among the issues discussed were such topics as: “The use of ChatGPT in teaching foreign languages”; “The development of listening skills through the use of authentic materials”; “Gamification as a means to increase students’ motivation in learning a foreign language”; “The use of extracurricular activities in the development of students’ communication skills”, etc.
The reports of the participants were presented in English, Kazakh and Russian. The round table was held in the format of an open discussion, which facilitated active interaction between the participants. Students and undergraduates not only presented their research, but also exchanged ideas and suggestions for their improvement, discussed methods and results, which contributed to an in-depth understanding of the topics presented.
Special attention was paid to the research nature of the reports, which were carried out in the IMRAD (Introduction, Methods and Materials, Results and Discussion) format (Introduction, Methods and Materials, Results and Discussion). The participants of the round table identified existing problems in the field of foreign language education, formulated research goals and objectives, put forward hypotheses and presented the results of their research based on methods and materials.
Following the results of the event, all participants of the scientific club “Young Researcher” received certificates for their contribution to the research activities of the department. It is worth noting that the participants demonstrated a special interest in scientific work and expressed a desire to continue their research. The Young Researcher Club is becoming an important platform for the development of young aspiring researchers, inspiring them to further scientific activities, and the holding of this round table contributed to the development of research knowledge, skills and abilities of participants.
