The history of the world’s first spaceport dates back to 1955.
According to the Decree of the USSR Government on February 12, 1955 it was decided to build a test site for intercontinental ballistic missiles, and on June 2 of the same year the General Staff of the Soviet Army approved the organizational structure of the site. This day was later defined as the day of formation of the city and the Baikonur Cosmodrome.
