Kornienko Prokofievich (Prokofievich Prokofievich Prokofievich) – reconnaissance platoon of the foot reconnaissance platoon of the 847th rifle regiment (303rd rifle division, 57th army, Stepnoi front), Red Army soldier.
Born on February 9, 1911 in Rostovka village nowadays Bukhar-Zhyrau district, Karaganda region in peasant family.
The hereditary peasant also distinguished himself at the front with thoroughness, resourcefulness and endurance, for which his comrades-in-arms loved.
Many interesting episodes on his combat account, involving a great risk to life.
Once the command ordered him to capture the “language” of the fascist officers.
Prokofy with a group of scouts invisibly snuck into the headquarters of the German regiment. A battle broke out in which almost all Hitler’s staff members, except for the Chief of Staff – Colonel, were killed. Daredevil scouts seized all the staff documents, the banner of the unit, and the cargo colonel scout Kornienko took on his shoulders and dragged to the headquarters of his division.
The most striking features of Prokofievich’s military valor manifested themselves on the night of 26 to 27 September 1943. The divorce platoon, in which Private Kornienko served, having received the task – to force the Dnieper, to provide a bridgehead for the other units of the regiment.
The scout Kornienko, having tied up a couple of logs, was the first to swim through the hurricane bombardment of the enemy through the Dnieper. Crawling closer to the machine-gun point, the enemy destroyed it. Then, with a group of submachine gunners, he again engaged in a hot battle with the enemy, in which Prokofievich managed to “suppress” another machine-gun calculation of the enemy.
Unexpectedly brave and impudent throw of the reconnaissance platoon confused the defensive military units of the enemy. Scout Kornienko and a group of machine gunners moved forward, providing a bridgehead for the entire battalion to cross the right bank of the Dnieper.
In this battle, the reconnaissance platoon destroyed a German infantry company.
By the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 20, 1943, Prokofievich Prokofievich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union by the platoon of the 847th rifle regiment of the 303rd rifle division of the 57th army of the Steppe Front, Kornienko. He was also awarded the Order of Lenin, medals.
The war was going on. Prokofiy Prokofievich also participated in the liberation of Moldova.
After the war, Prokofiy Kornienko worked in Tokarevka in the district executive committee, in the district military committee.
He died on June 10, 1972.
The name of the Hero is not forgotten. Streets in Tokarevka village and Rostovka village are named after him.
