Comics in the teaching of English grammar. Lesson 3

On December 2, 2020, lessons were conducted for students in grades 5 in the traditional form. According to the order of the Ministry of Education, pupils from grades 1-5 were transferred to full-time education in the second quarter.

We cannot but note the willingness and excitement of the pupils to study at school. The lessons were lively and productive, which of course had an impact on perception and learning of the new topic. The children have learnt the new grammatical construction “look like” and have learned how to describe the appearance of people in detail.

The lessons consisted of 3 phases: an introduction, i.e. what information is needed to describe a person, an explanation of the construct “look like”; reading the comic strips and reinforcing exercises.

The comic strips were based on three situations where characters told and described an ideal teacher, best friend and classmate. Several situations were chosen so that the roles could be read by most students.

To test their understanding of the topic, the children had to guess these conceived characters from the suggested images in the picture.

As a final exercise, pupils were given the task of describing a classmate where the class had to guess that pupil. The task was very interesting and stimulated their activity and raised the children’s spirits.
