Senior lecturer of the Chair of Foreign Languages and Intercultural Communication Anna Kalizhanova:
On Saturday 18.04.2020 at 10:00 a.m., we gathered for a regular session to discuss the problems and difficulties associated with taking the course English for STEM from the University of Pennsylvania, which is ranked 15th in the world ranking, on the Coursera platform.
Since the main goal of our project is to apply the course materials in practice in professional and everyday life, our participants are very actively involved in developing the meeting format.
This time the session was prepared and conducted by Taisia Vladimirovna Maryshkina, a senior lecturer at the Department of Foreign Languages and Intercultural Communication.
She chose a topical issue of ecology, or rather how to improve it, and made each participant talk about what he/she has passed, what projects related to the environment he/she has remembered, what he/she is doing to improve the environmental situation in the country and in the world.
Each participant had to give answers with the mandatory use of new words and phrases such as “therefore”, “due to”, “as a result”, etc., so the task of developing speaking skills and enriching the vocabulary through the course was also taken into account.
The session was fruitful and no one was left out of the discussion of really important issues. All participants agreed that it is important to leave less rubbish around, to walk or cycle more, to save energy and paper – something that everyone can do.
See you in a week!
