175th anniversary since the birth of Abai Kunanbayev will be marked in August.
In 2019, the baton for reading excerpts from Abai’s works was launched.
“In this challenge, proposed by a schoolgirl named Lyalim, participated and I supported the initiative. This action, in which many people, from schoolchildren to adults, including world famous people, took an active part, lasted for several months.
Thanks to this, all of Kazakhstan has studied the heritage of Abai again. This is respect for Abai and an effective way of raising children. I hope that this year’s Abai Poetry Readings Challenge in honour of the poet’s anniversary will be animated in a new way,” said President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
Bolashaq Academy is joining the Challenge. The faculty of the Department of Legal Disciplines and students of the educational program “Jurisprudence” performed works of great Abai and passed the baton to the Department of Pedagogy and Psychology.
The Challenge was launched on May 31 by Shynar Shaken, a Bolashak Program graduate. She suggested reading the poems of Abai, and posted on the network videos. The action gained popularity after 9-year-old schoolgirl Lyailim Shyrak from the capital gave the baton to the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The President read an excerpt from the poem ‘Gylym Tappai Maktanba’, which calls young people to science, education and achieving goals. Then has transferred the baton to Science and Education Minister Askhat Aimagambetov, Culture and Sports Minister Aktoty Raiymkulova and world famous talented singer Dimash Kudaibergen.
Education Minister Askhat Aimagambetov and Information and Public Development Minister Dauren Abayev also took part in the Challenge. “To the 175th anniversary of Abai Kunanbayev, the baton for reading poetry was taken from the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Great Abai paid special attention to the issues of receiving education and mastering science by young people, it is noticeable by his poems and words of edification. Our ancestor Abai urges each person, first of all, to rely only on himself and his knowledge,” Aimagambetov emphasized.
