On February 18, 2025, a scientific webinar on the topic “Features of Written and Oral Scientific Speech” was held for students and master’s students of the Department of Foreign Languages and Intercultural Communication. The event was organized by M.M. Mombekova, Master of Pedagogical Sciences and Senior Lecturer. The webinar focused on the key aspects of scientific speech in both written and oral forms, with an emphasis on the specifics of academic writing.
Special attention was given to the differences between written and oral scientific speech, including their specific characteristics, key elements, and the presentation of research findings at conferences and other academic events. The webinar covered lexical and grammatical structures of scientific style, criteria for formulating arguments, and building logical exposition. Practical recommendations were provided on how to prepare oral and written reports, including the use of introductory words, passive constructions, and precise scientific terminology.
During the webinar, participants became familiar with the main structures and characteristics of different formatting styles such as GOST, APA, Chicago Style, and MLA, which are the standard guidelines for writing and formatting scientific papers. M.M. Mombekova provided a detailed explanation of how these styles are applied in writing scientific articles, theses, and dissertations. Participants gained valuable insights on how to properly structure materials, adhere to citation requirements, and avoid common formatting errors.
Additionally, the webinar addressed the structure of thesis and master’s papers, their specific formatting requirements, and key content guidelines. Participants learned about the proper division of texts into chapters, paragraphs, and sections, as well as the importance of logical coherence within a scientific work.
The webinar served as a valuable and informative resource for students and master’s students aiming to enhance their skills in scientific communication and the preparation of high-quality academic texts. It not only deepened their understanding of academic writing but also helped them master effective techniques for presenting scientific data in both oral and written formats.
