Egemen Kazakstan (kaz. Egemen Qazaqstan / Egemen Kazakhstan – Sovereign Kazakhstan) is a newspaper published in Kazakhstan.

The history of Egemen Kazakhstan begins with the publication of the newspaper Ushkyn (Iskra) on December 17, 1919 in the city of Orenburg. Later, the newspaper’s name changed several times. The publication was published under the names: “Enbek tuy” (“Banner of Labor”) in 1920, “Enbekshi kazak” (“Kazakh worker”) in 1921, “Sotsialdy Kazakhstan” (“Social Kazakhstan”) in 1932. And in 1937, the newspaper was renamed “Socialist Kazakhstan” (“Socialist Kazakhstan”), and under this name it was published for 54 years. In 1991, when there were only a few months left before the republic declared independence, the newspaper was renamed Egemendi Kazakhstan. During this period, the newspaper was headed by the famous writer, publicist Sherkhan Murtaza. “Egemendi” was a new word that was just coming into common use and marked the beginning of a new era. On January 1, 1993, after extensive discussion, at the suggestion of the newspaper’s editor-in-chief, Abish Kekilbayev, the ending “-di” was removed from the first word of the title, and the newspaper’s name was changed to Egemen Kazakhstan. On March 20, 2018, the Latinized version “Egemen Qazaqstan” was used instead of the Cyrillic name on the cover of the publication
