Fluorography is a medical procedure that allows you to obtain and examine an X–ray image of the lungs in order to identify many dangerous diseases. For example, a malignant tumor or tuberculosis at an early stage, when the symptoms of the disease do not appear and the diagnosis of the disease is difficult.
Fluorography can also be used to detect:
– tumors;
– areas of inflammation;
– cavities representing pathological formations: cysts, cavities, abscesses;
– sclerosis (replacement of normal organ tissue with connective tissue);
– fibrosis (thickening and scarring of connective tissue);
– foreign objects.
How often can I get a fluorography
Based on the order of the Acting Minister of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. KR DSM dated October 15, 2020 “On approval of target groups of persons subject to mandatory medical examinations”, students of higher educational institutions are required to undergo lung fluorography once a year in order to exclude the possibility of developing tuberculosis. Every month, the Academy’s doctor draws up lists of students indicating the date of the next fluorographic examination and transmits the information in advance through the curators. In case of violation of the order and non-compliance with the deadline, students are not allowed to attend classes. Modern digital fluorography equipment allows performing fluorography without risk to health. When cases of tuberculosis are detected in a close environment, a study is scheduled once every six months. According to the indications of the attending physician, it is possible to perform fluorography more often. With a similar frequency of the study, there is also no excess of permissible radiation doses.
How does fluorography work?
The procedure does not require any preliminary preparation and takes a minimum amount of time. To take a picture, you need to enter the machine’s booth, take the correct position, following the doctor’s instructions, and hold your breath for a few seconds.
Contraindications
Fluorography is not performed for children under 15 years of age and pregnant women.
