On 27 November 2020, another class hour was held among pupils of the eighth grade of KSU “Gymnasium No. 45” under the guidance of a student of ZIN-18-1k Polina Makarovskaya within the framework of the diploma thesis on “Paleontological component in extracurricular activities of middle-level students in English”.
Pupils were announced the terms of a competition for the best postcard on the theme “Paleontology of Kazakhstan” in order to promote the native land through ancient flora and fauna, which is expected to be held from December 04 to January 15.
The students’ task is to create their own card, which will be sent by the POSTCROSSING* project to people from other countries. The instruction was accompanied by a demonstration of examples of such cards created by the meeting leader.
*POSTCROSSING is an online project created with the aim of exchanging cards from all over the world, which was influenced by bookcrossing (exchange of books). Also, during the meeting, students were introduced to this project in more detail.
Students’ cards must necessarily be double-sided: front and back. On the front side there should be an image of the area, which is valuable for the paleontological component of the native land, or some creature that lived in the territory of ancient Kazakhstan. On the reverse side, the contestant signs a postcard in English, including some information about the image of the front side, and wishes to a “foreign friend” are also welcome.
The next stage of the meeting was dedicated to answering questions from students. The manager also shared various websites and photos that can be used in preparation for the creation of the card. Special attention was paid to websites such as crello.com and canva.com, with the help of which children will be able to create their original card in online format. It is also worth noting that children are given the opportunity to choose the format for creating a card: digital or hand-drawn.
