Training seminar “Quiz as a resource for creative and intellectual development of students”

On January 15, 2025, senior lecturer of the Department of Educational Institutions of Higher Education, A.U. Ilyasova, moderated the training seminar “Quiz as a resource for creative and intellectual development of student youth.” The seminar was a practice-oriented lesson, where all participants took part in a team intellectual quiz game “Do you know the history of the Karaganda region?”.

The participants were randomly divided into 6 teams. Each team has chosen its own captain and name. Such teams as “Symbiosis”, “Firsts”, “Farmaki”, “Kvarta”, “Druzhba” and “Avangard” competed among themselves, they included representatives of all departments of the Bolashaq Academy faculty.

The quiz consisted of three rounds of 10 tasks, each of which became more difficult. In the first round, it was necessary to choose the correct answer from three suggested ones, in the second round to fill out a crossword puzzle and in the third to name the former and current names of urban objects, names of monumental art, representing paintings on architectural structures and other stationary bases.

The teams wrote down their answers on a special form for each round and, at the end of the round, handed them over to the assistant moderator of the quiz, senior lecturer at the Department of Public Information, A.B. Kosmanova.

After completing each round, the correct answers were announced and the points were counted. According to the results of the first round, the teams “Avangard” and “Druzhba” were in the lead with 6 points each, according to the results of the second “Symbiosis” – 9 points and “Farmaki” – 8 points, according to the results of the third round “Firsts” – 7 points and 5 points each for the teams “Symbiosis” and “Avangard”. The deserved winners of the quiz were the teams “Symbiosis” – 19 points and “Avangard” – 18 points. The participants of these teams were presented with memorable gifts – postcards depicting the administrative building of the Bolashaq Academy from a painting by the artist V.A. Protsenko’s “March Sun” and a postcard from the series “The History of the Bolashaq Academy Building” (16 Yerubayeva St.).

There was a competitive and competitive spirit between the teams, and many of the tasks made them want to take a walk and pay close attention to the city’s facilities. The participants of the quiz came to the conclusion that the use of quizzes in pedagogical activity is a cognitive tool for increasing concentration and logic, develops perseverance, and can be used as a universal form of teaching to consolidate the studied material in disciplines.
