On the 16th of January, 2021 was a meeting of Philology Island literary club.
Asel Khomutova, senior teacher of the Department of Foreign Languages and Intercultural Communication, the head of the Philology Island club:
The holidays are over, but the good mood stays with us. Our first Philology Island meeting of the new year was dedicated to literary characters. Characters from the literary world come into our lives and stay for a long time, changing our dreams and outlook on the world.
Participants in the literary club remembered the strong and versatile Scarlett O’Hara from the novel “Gone with the Wind”, with a smile and warmly discussed the importance of the image of Harry Potter, because the hero of the fantasy saga won the hearts of millions and taught to dream. And a character like Alice in Wonderland always raises many questions, while the new image of Daenerys Targaryen’s female power and strength awakens a whole range of feelings in the reader. Male characters in the book world may teach us restraint, equanimity and a love of his cause, as Mr Sherlock Holmes does. Other images can be misleading, charming and make us doubt everything, which is how Dorian Gray plays with the reader.
Favourite book characters. They are infinitely many, but each image is a treasure trove of knowledge about the human soul, culture and language.
Thank you to the club members for the discussion!
