The European Immunization Week has started in Kazakhstan, which runs from April 27 to May 3 under the slogan: “It is in our power to achieve immunization for all.” The purpose of the week is to remind you that vaccination saves lives. As part of this program, the Kuur doctor S.G. gave a lecture on April 29, 2025.

Kazakhstan’s achievements through vaccination• No cases of polio have been reported in the country since 1996
.• Cases of diphtheria have been reported since 2009.• The incidence of mumps has decreased by more than 100 times.• The number of hepatitis A cases decreased by 32 times.• The incidence of hepatitis B decreased 92 times.• The number of cases of rubella has decreased by more than 2,000 times.

Which infections are covered by the immunization program today
To date, the national vaccination calendar provides protection against 21 infections, including serious diseases such as:• Measles;• Whooping cough;• Tetanus;• Meningococcal infection;• Hepatitis, etc.
Problems of recent years: an increase in the incidence of measles and whooping cough
Despite the achievements, the Ministry of Health expressed concern about the current situation.:• 75% of measles cases are children who have not received routine vaccination.• 87% of whooping cough cases are also recorded in unvaccinated children.
These data highlight the need for timely immunization to protect children and society as a whole.

Innovations in the vaccination calendar: HPV vaccination
Since 2024, Kazakhstan has introduced vaccination against human papillomavirus (HPV) for girls aged 11 to 13 years. At the moment:• 133,169 girls received the first dose of the vaccine;• 21,194 girls completed the vaccination course after receiving two doses.

This is an important step in the prevention of cancer related to the virus.
At the end of the lecture, the students filled out questionnaires as part of the Immunization Week.
